Top 10 Books We Love In This House

Last week started our libraries winter reading program, which inspired me to write all about books in our house!  To the books we love in a second, but first where we read.

We keep most of our books in my sons room.  We had a normal bookcase, but my type-A couldn't handle how messy it looked when my kids cleaned up, and since I didn't want to tell them they were doing it wrong we switched to this....
The books are in the bins.  If it is messy, I can't see it!  We also have 2 bins like these filled with books down in our playroom, a stack of books in our living room toybox, and our library books stay in Mommy and Daddy's room (which is where we read before bed)  I like to keep the library books separate so they don't get lost or damaged.
The kids also have bean bag chairs on the floor next to the books, so they can snuggle up with a book.

My kids love to sit and read on their own, and are constantly bringing me books as well.  I love when I am making dinner and they bring books up into the kitchen and sit on the floor to read while I cook!  We also read for 20 minutes after baths, before they get tucked into bed.

This weeks Top 10 Tuesday is all about the books we love!

10. The Llama Series by Anna Dewdney - These are Lillian's favorite books.

9. Thomas the Train Engine Story Collection - Matthew got it for his birthday (we had been getting it from the library nearly every week), it is an almost full collection of all the Thomas stories.  It is 508 pages and we are almost done with it.

8.  Karen Katz - but the only one Lillian will let us read is Ten Tiny Tickles, and she knows every word.

7.  The Cow that went Oink by Bernard Most.  Both my kids think this story is SOOOO funny.

6.  First 100 Words (Bright Baby) It is a board book that my son got when he was born, and although both my children know all 100 words in the book, we still have to sit almost everyday and name everything.  It really is the highlight of my day......lol.

5. Nonfiction books.  My son loves going to the juvenile nonfiction section of the library and picking books.  Normally it is trains or trucks or dinosaurs.  I love that he will sit and be fascinated as we read them as well!

4. The Franklin Series by Paulette Bourgeois.  I love that we are getting into reading longer stories.

3.  Angelina Ballerina by Katherine Holabird and Helen Craig.  What little girl doesn't love these!

2. Lilly's Big day and Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes  My Lilly loves them for the obvious reason.

1.  And of course The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.  It is probably the favorite and most regular read in our house.

Words of wisdom hanging on my son's wall above their reading area.

    1. It is working really well because it is a way for them to clean up by themselves, and I don't have to see that it isn't done the way I would want it! :)
